Disclosure and Barring Service Identity Documents Guidance – Non-UK Nationals

ID verification must be undertaken face to face and all documents presented must be originals. 

Documents should be presented for verification at one of our Customer Contact Centres (please note our libraries are closed between 1pm and 2pm daily):

Read this guidance carefully. If you present an incorrect document, you may have to make more than one trip to the Customer Contact Centre.

Please produce at least THREE identity documents which will confirm your NAME (and any change of name), DATE OF BIRTH and CURRENT ADDRESS.

The types of documents needed depending on your circumstances are:

An applicant who wants to do paid work and isn’t a national of the UK must be able to show:
  • ONE Primary Document, see below*
  • AND TWO supporting documents from Group 1, 2a or 2b
  • The document to confirm your current address needs to have been POSTED to that address within the last 3 months
  • All documents must be in date and valid.

 *If an applicant is unable to provide this documentation, they can’t submit a DBS check. This is because the right to work in the UK can’t be established. They can’t use any other route.

Applicants for voluntary work who aren’t UK nationals must be able to produce:
  • ONE document must be from Group 1
  • AND TWO further documents from either Group 1, 2a or 2b
  • The document to confirm your current address needs to have been POSTED to that address within the last 3 months
  • All documents must be in date and valid.
