Launch of Virtual Careers

Three launch events will be taking place across the region during October 2026 to showcase Virtual Careers, an innovative virtual reality (VR) resource designed to support young people in exploring careers within the social care and childcare sectors.

Virtual Careers has been co-developed by the West Wales Regional Partnership Board, Powys County Council, and Virtus Tech, sponsored by WeCare Wales. This exciting project aims to showcase the diverse and rewarding opportunities available across the care sector, helping to address future workforce challenges while demonstrating the value of strong cross-sector collaboration. The project’s impact and innovation were recognised nationally when it was shortlisted as a finalist for the Stars of Social Care Awards 2026.

Through immersive, interactive experiences, Virtual Careers allows students to step into care environments, observe virtual professionals, and gain an understanding of the skills, values, and career opportunities available. Acting as a virtual work experience tool, it helps young people imagine themselves in meaningful careers they may not previously have considered.

Attendees at the launch events will have the opportunity to:

  • Experience the Virtual Careers platform first-hand.
  • Discover how VR technology can enhance careers education and guidance.
  • Connect with educators, employers and sector leaders from across the region.
  • Learn how to access and use the resource within your own organisation or educational setting.
