ILM Leadership & Management Programme

We are delighted to announce the launch of our ILM Level 4 Leadership & Management Programme. We will be starting a cohort in September 2018 and another at a later date.

“The Council’s Leadership Group are delighted to offer managers from across all Services the opportunity to undertake the ILM programme. The opportunity will deliver on the commitment within the Workforce Plan 2017-2022 to strengthen leadership capability and ensure that leaders and managers have the skills to develop and motivate high performing teams and individuals.”

Who is the programme for?

This programme has been developed for mid and senior managers who are already in a leadership role. You need to be responsible for operational planning and implementation, managing change and influencing others in the organisation. This programme will help you reflect on your leadership style and take steps to further develop as a leader.

In order to take part you must have a GCSE/CSE Grade A-C in English and Maths – or an equivalent qualification. Copies of certificates will need to be provided.

What qualifications will I get?

Course Timeline and Commitments

  • 5 Days of Mandatory Workshops (one month apart, one assignment per workshop)
  • A choice of optional units that match your role, delivered one to one across 18 months. An assessor will visit you once a month for 2-3 hours to complete these ‘on the job’.
  • Essential Skills Digital Literacy (I.T.) – A 1 day workshop followed up by a 5 hour task and a discussion with your assessor. The workshop is optional, however you will need to complete the task and discussion (your choice depending upon your experience and can be discussed fully with your assessor).

5 Mandatory Workshops

  • Who would want to be led by you?
  • 21st Century Leader
  • High Performing Organisations
  • Mission Delivery
  • Shift Happens

Mandatory Workshops – Assessment

  • 5 assignments (one following each mandatory workshop)
  • Assignment feedback on an e-platform within 2 weeks of submission
  • Personal study time (an average of 2-3 hours per week).

Optional Units – Assessment

You will need to complete a number of optional units which are assessed ‘on the job’ using a variety of methods such as professional discussions, witness statements, observation of your work and some written assignments. Assessment methods will vary depending upon the units you choose. This will be explained by your assessor with work completed ‘on the job’ across the 18 month duration of the programme.

Support

Each mandatory workshop is designed to deliver the theory and allow time to start work on your assignment. This ensures that you leave each workshop with an initial outline of your assignment. There is support available from tutors outside of the workshops if you have questions about your assignments.

You will have access to an online ‘e-platform’ to submit your work and track your progress throughout the programme. Your assessor will support you with this.
